About the Artist
Kendall Lowder is a photographer from Jacksonville, Florida. They obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. They are interested in the cycle of life, and death and sharks. They have a strong desire to show the world that these subjects are highly misunderstood. They have always held a strong passion for marine life, which has become their main muse. They vehemently believe that every part of an animal killed should be used, not put to waste, inspiring them to take up taxidermy to insert into their works.
Lowder holds intense views on the treatment and views of sharks due to pop culture. They also hold serious views on the commercial shark finning industries. Their work seeks to bring awareness to these creatures and to show the world that sharks are not mindless killing machines.
________
My photography focuses on various forms of nature. These forms include both living and dead creatures. My intention is to show that any form of life can be beautiful, even if it is considered macabre or frightening.
I create my photography with a Canon Rebel T5I camera and a creative thought process. There are occasions where I will sketch out something to gather my thoughts before composing a shot. On the other hand, when it comes to my taxidermy, I search for the remains in the woods, and clean them. My works are created in both natural and artificial settings. Living subjects are photographed outside, whilst dead subjects are captured in a studio. This is because natural lighting provides a bright environment, while the studio provides the ability to create drama and a grittier aesthetic. My work serves as a reminder that life is only temporary, but beauty is eternal.
